IDUKKI: Megastar Mammootty has stepped forward to help Sandhya, who is undergoing treatment after being injured in the landslide at Koompanpara in Adimali. Care and Share International Foundation led by the actor will bore all her medical expenses after considering her brother Sandeep’s request.

Sandhya is presently undergoing treatment at Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva. The woman's left leg was amputated below the knee. An emergency surgery was performed but as it failed, her leg had to be amputated.

The landslide occurred last Saturday. A broken part of the 50-foot-high embankment collapsed and fell on the road and about six houses below.

Following a heavy rain warning, 25 families from the area were shifted to the camp. Sandhya and her husband Biju were among them. They had returned home to take important documents and to eat food. In the meantime, mud caved in on top of her house.

Sandhya and Biju, who were trapped inside the house, were brought out after hours of rescue work. However, Biju could not be saved. The couple's daughter is a third-year BSc nursing student in Kottayam. Their son had died of cancer a year ago.
