THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government with a menu full of delicious dishes for children who are tired of eating thoran, sambar and rasam for school lunch!
This is according to the report of the expert committee appointed to scientifically reform the midday meal. Minister V Sivankutty informed that a unified menu is being implemented for all districts. Vegetable fried rice and vegetable biryani should be prepared with fortified rice one day a week. Curries like koottu curry and kuruma should be served along with it. Lentils and pulses should be added to leaf curry.
Microgreens should be served one or two days a month. Chammanthi with mint, ginger, gooseberry and green mango is also being considered. These can be served as a side dish with veg rice, biryani and lemon rice. Considering the importance of small grains, ragi balls, ragi kozhukatta with jaggery and coconut, leafy vegetables, flattened rice, carrot payasam with milk, payasam using ragi or other millets have also been included in the menu.
