KOZHIKODE: The carcass of a giant blue whale was found washed up on the Kozhikode South beach on Saturday. The body found ashore was in a rotten state. It was the fishermen in the locality who first found the 15-foot-long carcass of a monstrous whale floating on the sea.

It is assumed that the strong waves brought the carcass ashore. Learning about the incident, people from the locality and far away places thronged the beach to see a glimpse of the giant whale. Health officials have also reached the spot.

The lifeguard at the beach informed the media about seeing the carcass at 8:30 am on Saturday morning. The officials doubt collision with ships or illness to be the chief factor behind the whale’s death. A postmortem will be conducted under the aegis of the forest department.
