KOLLAM: Kollam Principal Sections Court on Monday granted bail to Dr Sreekutty, the second accused in the Mynagappally accident case. Charged with incitement, the hearing on Sreekutty's bail plea was completed on Saturday. She is currently lodged in Attakulangara women’s jail.
The accident happened on the 15th of last month. Mynagappally native Kunjumol and her cousin Fauzia were crossing the road on a scooter when Ajmal's car hit them. Seeing the locals approaching them, Ajmal and Sreekutty tried to flee the spot and moved the car, running through the body of Kunjumol, aggravating her injury which soon resulted in death. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital but died around 9.45 pm.
However, the locals chased them and stopped the car a short distance from the accident spot. It was also found that both were under the influence of alcohol. Ajmal, the first accused who drove the car, has been charged with intentional homicide.
The second accused Sreekutty was in the back seat of the car. Earlier, Sasthamkota Magistrate Court had rejected Sreekutty's bail application. It is reported that the first accused Ajmal will soon approach the Sessions Court with a bail application.
