THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The superintendent of the Attingal Valiyakunnu Taluk Hospital has called for an investigation into the recent death of a newborn baby brought to the hospital. According to hospital sources, the mother, a 23-year-old woman from Alamcode, Attingal, gave birth at home in her seventh month of pregnancy. The newborn was rushed to the Attingal Taluk Hospital in an ambulance, but hospital officials said the baby had already passed away by the time it arrived. The woman, whose husband is working abroad, reportedly told doctors that she did not have proper access to prenatal care during her pregnancy.

However, the hospital superintendent stated that further investigation is needed to determine whether the woman had taken treatment under any other medical system. He also noted that earlier, the hospital had reported to the district collector about health issues seen in pregnant women who sought treatment at certain acupuncture centres in the Alamcode area.

Following a report from the hospital, the police arrived and completed the inquest procedures. Based on a statement given by the woman’s father-in-law, Abdul Wahid, the Attingal police have registered a case of unnatural death.
