No escape from torrid heat; IMD issues yellow alert for eight districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The heat is turning unbearable in the state and as a presage for the coming days, the Indian meteorological department announced a yellow alert in eight districts. Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts have been alerted. According to IMD, the temperature is likely to rise by two to four degrees Celsius above the normal range.

Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts will experience a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius on both Monday and Tuesday. Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts are likely to experience a maximum temperature of 36 °C (2 - 4 °C above normal).

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Drink plenty of fresh water. Keep drinking water even if you are not thirsty.
  • Avoid dehydrating drinks like alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated soft drinks during the day.
  • Wear loose, light-coloured cotton clothes.
