PK Sreemathy becomes AIDWA national president; first Malayali to reach this position after Susheela Gopalan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: PK Sreemathy has been selected as the president of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). The current president Malini Bhattacharya has completed her third term, so Sreemathy who was the national vice president has become the president. This is the first time that a Malayali has reached this position after Susheela Gopalan.

KK Shailaja has been selected as national vice president. Mariam Dhawale and S Punyavathi would continue as general secretary and treasurer respectively. The conference has also chosen 103 members of the Central Executive Committee and 34 members of the Secretariat.

There are 15 vice presidents including P Sathidevi, Susan Kody, and PK Sainaba and nine secretaries including CS Sujatha and N Sukanya. KK Latika and E Padmavathi are new faces in the committee. The association has amended its rules to allow membership to transwomen.

Any woman above the age of 15 can take membership in the association. The conference which was conducted for 4 days in Thiruvananthapuram will end today. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the concluding meeting today evening.
