The accused, who escaped unharmed, was subdued later. Aryancode SHO Tanzi Abdul Samar opened fire on Kiran (27), alias Kylie, a native of Aryancode. Kiran, who ran away from his house seeing the police, was chased and caught at Kattakada.
The incident took place at around 9 am on Thursday. Kiran, an accused in two KAAPA cases, was earlier deported from the district. The Aryancode police surrounded his house after learning that Kiran had arrived here to celebrate his birthday. Kiran brandished a machete when police tried to barge into the house. The officials escaped by a whisker. Then, the SHO opened fire through the window of the house. Kiran escaped through the back door. The window pane was broken during the firing.
On Wednesday night, Kiran celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake on the road with his friends. He also shouted slogans challenging the police and others. The police came to arrest him on Thursday morning after locals informed them of his arrival. A case was registered for assaulting the police and violating the KAAPA law. He will be produced in the Kattakada court on Friday after questioning.
Kiran is an accused in 10 cases including drugs, ganja and assault at Kattakada, Maranallur and Aryancode stations. He was serving his sentence in Viyyur Central Jail in Kannur. After serving his sentence, Kiran was again involved in several cases. Then, on October 10, Kiran was banned from entering the district.
