KOZHIKODE: When will the CPM be ready to put down the sword of death, asked K K Rema MLA. She said this while responding to the verdict awarding double life imprisonment to the accused in the Periya double murder case.

‘It has not been mentioned for how many years they will have to undergo the sentence. It is expected to be 14 years. We need to know if there is a harsher sentence beyond that. The family has made it clear that the sentence is not satisfactory and will appeal in this regard. It is not a trivial matter that top leaders of the CPM, including the former MLA, have been sentenced. Five years is too short. It is significant that the court has sentenced them beyond the specified period.

This verdict will convince the general public that CPM leaders are involved in such murders. T P Chandrasekharan was murdered in 2012. The verdict was pronounced in 2014. The CPM leaders were sentenced then. Then in 2019, these two youths were murdered. Despite the conviction of so many leaders, the CPM is not ready to end this. The government tried to prevent the case from being handed over to the CBI to justify that we did not do it. For this, the CPM spent about Rs 1.15 crore from the public treasury,’ said K K Rema.
