Rain with thunderstorms likely; Nine districts on yellow alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues in the state. Nine districts are on yellow alert today. Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Isolated heavy rains are expected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph in isolated places till Sunday. Those living in areas where landslides, mudslides and mountain floods are possible should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.


The IMD has informed that moderate/heavy rain with thundershowers and strong winds with speed reaching up to 40 kmph are likely in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam in the next three hours.


There is a possibility of waterlogging on main roads/blurred visibility for vehicles, leading to traffic congestion. Falling of trees may lead to power outages/accidents. There is a possibility of partial damage to houses and huts. Officials have warned people to avoid non-essential travel and move to safer areas.
