Rains likely in state; eight districts alerted, fishing banned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of widespread rain in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in eight districts today. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur are on yellow alert.


A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorms is expected.


In the next three hours, there is a possibility of rain with thundershowers at isolated places in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod with gusty winds of less than 40 kmph. The IMD has informed that light rain may also occur at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha.


The IMD has banned fishing on Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts from yesterday till October 12 and in Karnataka coasts on October 11. Till October 12: Kerala - Lakshadweep coasts with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at some occasions up to 55 kmph, strong winds and bad weather conditions.
