PALAKKAD: Actor Ramesh Pisharody said that he has stopped acting in films. His response was soon after his victory in the Palakkad assembly elections. UDF candidate Pisharody won the Palakkad constituency, which was a fierce political battle, by a margin of 13,147 votes against BJP's fiery leader Shobha Surendran.

Pisharody while talking to a media clarified that he will not do any stage shows and will dedicate the next five years entirely to the Palakkad constituency. Soon after filing the nominations, he said people need not elect him as an actor but elect him as a politician.

Pisharody, who secured 62,199 votes, won by a majority of 13,147 votes. Shobha Surendran, who secured 49,053 votes, is in the second place. It is believed that the controversies that emerged in the last moments of the election were a setback for the BJP. The video that came out alleging that the candidate was giving money to the people in Kannady changed the course of the campaign. Shobha arguing with the Congress workers who recorded the footage also led to major political discussions. With this, the BJP's hopes of capturing the Palakkad constituency, which had been held by the UDF since 2011, were dashed.
