KOCHI: The repair works of Aluva-Perumbavoor road, where a biker died after falling into a pothole, has begun. Locals are also overseeing the work to check whether it is being done properly. The locals had earlier decided to block the road in protest against the Public Works Department's unwillingness to take action even after one person died after falling into the pit. The road work started after the locals staged a sit-in protest near the pothole at Pathiyattu junction which caused the accident.

On August 20, Kunjahammed, a native of Marampally, was injured after falling into a pit and was unconscious for three weeks. He died on Thursday evening. After Kunjahammed's accident, eight people fell into the same pit and were injured. Filling potholes after deaths have become a common occurence.
