KOZHIKODE: KP Rajesh Kumar, a councillor in director VM Vinu's ward, has announced his withdrawal from active politics. He has reportedly written to the Congress leadership in this regard. The leadership had accused Rajesh of misleading the DCC that VM Vinu, who was to contest as a Congress candidate in the Kozhikode Municipality, was in the voter list. An explanation was sought on the matter. This was followed by Rajesh Kumar's letter announcing his withdrawal from active politics.
"Due to mental and financial reasons, I am finding it difficult to be active in organizational activities. Therefore, I will work in wards eight to 12 of the corporation assigned to me. However, at this stage, I am informing through this letter that I am abstaining from active politics," Rajesh Kumar said in the letter to the Congress leadership.
Meanwhile, the High Court rejected the petition of director VM Vinu regarding his name not being on the voter list. Vinu was the UDF mayoral candidate in the Kozhikode Corporation elections. He cannot contest as the petition has been rejected. The High Court rejected Vinu's petition with severe criticism. The court asked whether a person who did not even know whether his name was on the voter list was being contested for the post of mayor. The court pointed out that celebrities do not have special consideration.
V M Vinu had said yesterday that he had voted in 2020. He also alleged that there was a conspiracy by the CPM and the Election Commission behind his name not being in the new voter list. Vinu did not vote in the 2020 elections either. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) had earlier clarified that Vinu did not utilise the opportunity to raise objections after the publication of the first voter list last July. He had three opportunities to add his name. Although time was given until the 13th, Vinu did not utilise it. Congress has clarified that it is considering 'Plan B' as Vinu is unable to contest.
