CHELAKKARA: The venerated golden crown of the Pazhayannur Bhagavathy Temple was reported missing on Thursday. The news came to light when the new Devaswom officer inspected the register. The crown is studded with precious stones and weighs 15 grams. When a new officer takes charge, the movable and immovable properties along with the register are inspected. The figures were calculated by the Devaswom gold appraiser.

Sachin Varma, who took charge as the Devaswom officer, filed a complaint with the Devaswom Vigilance about the crown missing. The Devaswom appointed Sachin Varma as the new officer after the current officer, Dinesh, got promoted. The missing gold crown was a priceless souvenir from the royal era. Following the complaint, a team led by Devaswom Vigilance Asst. Commissioner Sheeja reached the Pazhayannur Bhagavathy Temple and started an investigation.
