Savarkar featured in campaign poster of Bharat Jodo Yatra, later replaced by Gandhiji's photo following controversy; action against INTUC leader

KOCHI: An INTUC leader has faced disciplinary action after a picture of Savarkar was used along with the pictures of various leaders in a campaign poster of the Bharat Jodo Yatra put up in Ernakulam. Savarkar's picture got featured in a poster put up by the Congress at Kottayi Junction near MLA Anwar Sadath's house in Athani in Nedumbassery. Savarkar's picture was seen alongside those of Rabindranath Tagore, Abdul Kalam Azad, GB Pant, Dadabhai Naoroji and Chandrasekhar Azad.

With the incident becoming controversial, Savarkar's picture was replaced with Gandhiji's picture on the poster. The local Congress workers explained to the district leadership that the flex poster was put up by a local Congress worker after being asked to put up the pictures of the freedom fighters. Following the incident, INTUC Chengamanad mandalam president Suresh was suspended from the party.
