THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An official send-off ceremony for ADGP Mahipal Yadav at the police headquarters was planned on Wednesday. Tragically, it turned into a condolence meeting. Mahipal, retiring on Saturday, was to receive a send-off by the force at the police headquarters at 4 pm on Wednesday.

It was reported that Mahipal would participate online as he was undergoing treatment in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and his family members would come to the police headquarters in person. However, what reached the police headquarters on Wednesday morning was the shocking news of Mahipal Yadav's death.

Mahipal last talked with 'Kerala Kaumudi' at the end of May, explaining the steps to deal with drug abuse. He seemed healthy for a police officer, but was hospitalised in mid-June after falling ill.

Mahipal's son was contacted by the police headquarters last Friday to prepare a farewell video for the ceremony. The son informed that his father was improving and would be discharged from the hospital in two days. However, his illness suddenly worsened. Since Mahipal had announced that he would participate online, a farewell video was also prepared. The link to participate online was sent to all the officers.

Mahipal Yadav has worked in various sections of the police and the BSF and was never involved in any controversies or allegations. The condolence meeting held under the chairmanship of Police Chief Rawada Chandrasekhar was attended by ADGPs P. Vijayan, S. Sreejith, H. Venkatesh, SP Merin Joseph, former DGPs Loknath Behera, Hormis Tharakan, and Harinath Mishra.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of Mahipal Yadav, remembering Mahipal as an officer who maintained honesty and commitment to the people throughout his official career.

“He was able to implement the policies and activities of the government without compromise. We pay our heartfelt tributes to him, who always stood as an exemplary role model.” Said the CM.
