KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has convicted seven out of the 17 Muslim League workers in the murder case of DYFI activist Shibin, reversing their acquittal by the trial court. The case involves the killing of Shibin in Nadapuram. The court is set to hear arguments on the sentencing of the convicted individuals on the 15th.
The division bench comprising Justice P.B. Suresh Kumar and Justice C. Pratheep Kumar issued the order on the appeals challenging the Eranhipaalam Special Additional Sessions Court’s verdict acquitting all 17 accused in the case. The High Court also issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the accused, directing that they be produced before the Sessions Court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
The accused convicted by the High Court are Ismail, Muneer, Siddique, Muhammad Anees, Shuhaib, Jasim and Abdul Samad. Although the third accused Aslam was also found guilty in the case, his name was removed from the list of accused as he was murdered in 2016.
DYFI activist Shibin was killed on January 22, 2015, at Vellur in Nadapuram. The case alleges that Muslim League workers, motivated by political and communal reasons, attacked CPI(M) workers, including Shibin, injuring six others severely.
