Suicide in SAI Hostel: Police collect camera footage from hostel premises

KOLLAM: The investigation team has collected surveillance camera footage from the hostel premises in connection with the hanging of two female students at Kollam SAI Hostel. The hostel students who went to their homes will be questioned when they return. The police, who are confirming that the students' deaths were suicides, are trying to find out the reason that led to it.

The camera footage was collected from the Lal Bahadur Stadium adjacent to the hostel and nearby commercial establishments. The statements of the forensic experts at Paripally Hospital, who conducted the postmortem of the female students, will be recorded within two days. The case is being investigated by a six-member special team led by Kollam East CI Pushpakumar under the supervision of Kollam ACP S. Sheriff. Sandra (18), a native of Kozhikode, and Vaishnavi (15), a native of Attingal, were found hanging in their hostel room on Thursday morning.

Sandra's father alleges mystery

Sandra's father Ravi said that there is a mystery in his daughter's death.

'Earlier, my daughter used to talk about the hostel affairs with joy. However, Sandra had said that she would finish her studies and training in Kollam by this year and come back home. She used to call home from the hostel's landline. Sandra did not express any sorrow when she called on Wednesday night, perhaps because the warden was nearby. My daughter's suicide note states that she cannot bear it anymore. Sandra had told her mother that the authorities had threatened to throw her out of the hostel. Sandra had said that the hostel authorities had told her that no one in her family should call the warden, who had moved out a month ago.'

In addition to the statement given to the police, Sandra's father also filed a separate complaint with the Kollam East police, including these matters.
