MYSORE: P V Ushakumari, a native of Anayara, will take charge as the first woman director of Mysore Airport on the 31st. She is currently the Deputy General Manager and Head of Airside Operations at Karipur International Airport in Kozhikode.

Ushakumari’s appointment as the first woman director of Mysore airport is a feather in the cap for India’s ambitious walk towards empowering women, and also a significant moment in the Indian aviation sector.

A stint as the security supervisor in the operations department at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport brought out Ushakumari's acumen in the male-dominated job. During her service at Chennai Airport, the Thiruvananthapuram native played a key role in establishing the AOCC (Airport Operations Control Centre). She was widely recognised for her leadership in transparently managing flight operations during the 2015 Chennai floods. Usha's effort for the smooth travel of passengers from Thiruvananthapuram Airport during the 2018 Kerala floods displayed unerring organisational and crisis management skills.

Ushakumari’s husband is Anil Dev, a native of Poovachal, Thiruvananthapuram. Anil is a film director and a senior advocate at the Thiruvananthapuram Bar. The couple have two children, Abhirami and Abhishek, both graduate students.
