KANNUR: Report submitted by the Kannur Central Jail Superintendent two and a half months ago against the convicts in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case has been released amid the prison department's move to release them. The report states that Kodi Suni and Kirmani Manoj were involved in drug use and sale inside the prison and were constantly violating discipline.

It was based on this report that Kodi Suni was transferred from Kannur to Tavanur jail last month. The prison department's move to release the prisoners was made while this report was pending. This is despite the High Court order that the convicts in the TP murder case should not be released for 20 years. Kodi Suni is in Tavanur, while the others are in Kannur and Thrissur central jails. The government had earlier moved to release TK Rajeesh, KK Muhammed Shafi and S Sijith, but withdrew it after controversy arose.

Parole or release?

A letter was sent from the prison headquarters to the superintendents asking if there was a security issue in releasing the convicts in the TP murder case. The letter does not say whether it is a release or a parole. ADGP Balram Kumar Upadhyay had come out with an explanation that it was not a letter to release the accused. Kodi Suni, who was also involved in the TP murder case, was also involved in the Mahe double murder case. The court had acquitted all the accused in this case. The prison department explained that the letter was sent in this context.
