THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said that a detailed investigation had already been ordered into the incident after a guide wire got stuck in a woman's chest during surgery at the General Hospital. The minister clarified that an expert committee has been entrusted for this and strict action will be taken against those responsible.

‘This was found a few months ago. The report of the expert committee has not been received, and the woman has now filed a complaint. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty in the investigation,' said the minister.

Sumayya of Kattakada is suffering due to the doctors' lapse. The woman underwent surgery on March 22, 2023, as per the directions of Dr Rajeev Kumar to remove her thyroid gland. After discharged from the hospital, Sumaiya developed severe chest congestion. She was under treatment with the same doctor for two years. When her chest congestion turned severe, she sought treatment at a private hospital. As per the doctor’s advice, she took an X ray. It revealed the presence of the wire, which is part of laparoscopic surgery.

The woman then approached Dr Rajeev Kumar with the X-ray. Then on the advice of Rajeev Kumar, she sought treatment at Sree Chitra Hospital. The CT scan found that the wire had become attached to a blood vessel and it could not be removed. According to the complaint filed by the woman with the DMO, when she informed Rajeev Kumar about this, he said that he has nothing to do with it.
