THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family has filed a police complaint against the doctor after a tube was found in woman’s chest after a surgery. The complaint was lodged against Dr Rajeev Kumar, who conducted the surgery. The Cantonment Police will record the woman’s statement today. The complaint mentioned serious lapses on the part of the doctor. The health department's explanation that there will be no health issues due to the guide wire getting struck is being criticized sharply.
The tube got stuck on Sumaiyya’s chest during surgery performed to remove the thyroid gland. An audio of Dr Rajeev Kumar, a surgeon at the General Hospital, admitting medical negligence in the incident, had surfaced. The audio of his conversation with the patient's relative was out. Sabeer, a relative of the complainant Sumaiya, spoke to the doctor about the matter two months ago. The doctor had admitted his lapse in the audio. The doctor told her relative that those who inserted the tube for the medicine are responsible for it.
The woman was subjected to the surgery on March 22, 2023, as per Dr Rajeev Kumar's suggestion to remove the thyroid gland. After discharged from the hospital, Sumaiya developed severe chest congestion. She was under treatment with the same doctor for two years. When her chest congestion turned severe, she sought treatment at a private hospital. As per the doctor’s advice, she took an X ray. It revealed the presence of the wire, which is part of laparoscopic surgery.
The woman then approached Dr Rajeev Kumar with the X-ray. Then on the advice of Rajeev Kumar, she sought treatment at Sree Chitra Hospital. The CT scan found that the wire had become attached to a blood vessel and it could not be removed. According to the complaint filed by the woman with the DMO, when she informed Rajeev Kumar about this, he said that he has nothing to do with it.
