THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated V V Rajesh, who scripted history by becoming the first BJP mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Rajesh called the chief minister on the phone before the mayoral election was held.
The party named V V Rajesh, who won from Kodunganoor ward, as the mayor after long discussions. Former DGP R Sreelekha's name was also under consideration. However, Rajesh was recommended for the mayor's post based on his political experience. Ashanath is BJP's deputy mayor candidate.
Former DGP R Sreelekha is reportedly displeased for not getting the mayor's post. It was first heard that Sreelekha would be considered for the mayor's post from the beginning of the elections. However, Sreelekha was upset due to the political changes and party decisions in the last phase. It is hinted that she has directly conveyed her dissatisfaction to the party.
The BJP central leadership has intervened in the matter. It is reported that senior central leaders will meet Sreelekha and talk to her directly. The center is directly taking the initiative for reconciliation talks on the assumption that Sreelekha's dissatisfaction, who was the face of the party in Thiruvananthapuram in these local body elections, will send a wrong message amongst the people.
