KOCHI: The High Court has strongly criticised former Devaswom Board member KP Sankaradas in the Sabarimala gold theft case. What is Sankaradas's illness? Is he being treated for any illness? Can he continue his treatment while in jail? The court raised questions like this. The court directed that a medical board should be formed to conduct an examination and its report should be submitted in a sealed cover.
Although arrested in the case, Sankaradas is still undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Sankaradas has been remanded for 14 days. The police remanded Sankaradas after reaching the hospital.
The SIT has found that the gold plate was given to Unnikrishnan Potty with the knowledge of Sankaradas. Sankaradas signed all the relevant documents. The SIT also says that the Devaswom Board is jointly responsible for the gold theft. The statement of the former chairman of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Padmakumar, who was arrested earlier, is what led the investigation team to Sankaradas.
Sankaradas is the 11th accused in the case. The court had criticised the Special Investigation Team for the delay in arresting him. Sankaradas was undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital for the past few days. Investigating officer SP Sasidharan reached the hospital and recorded Sankaradas' arrest after he was shifted to a room.
