KOCHI: The Kerala High Court criticized the public meeting held at Vanchiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram, in connection with the CPM Palayalam area committee meet, after blocking the road. The court said that it was against their previous orders and that contempt of court action should be taken. The high court also demanded the government to inform what action has been taken on the matter. The bench headed by Justice Anil K Narendran clarified this on the plea filed against the CPM's action.
After considering the plea, the court asked who gave such a permission. The court had earlier mentioned in their previous orders that roads should not be blocked under any circumstances. The court asked who gave permission for the act. Who all participated in the meeting? The court said contempt of court action should be taken against them.
'The situation was that the pedestrians couldn’t even walk on the road. From where did they get the permission to hold such meetings. Why is the government not taking action on the matter. In Ernakulam and other places, the roadsides are decorated with lamps at night in the name of CPM conferences. Where does the electricity come from for all this, asked the court.
The incident of blocking the road in Vanchiyoor last Thursday in connection with the CPM Palayam area conference, which caused inconvenience to commuters for the entire day, was widely discussed. This violation of the law, which lasted for the entire day, happened on a road where many people constantly come and go, including the district court, several lower courts, the Vanchiyoor police station and the administrative tribunal.
Among those stranded due to the unexpected road closure were school children, patients and people who had to reach the courts. A stage was erected right in front of the Vanchiyoor police station. In addition to the meet, a drama was also held there. After the act was highly criticized, the police had registered a case against five hundred known people.
