THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress agreed to appoint former MLA and KPCC vice-president T. Sarath Chandra Prasad as the interim president of the Thiruvananthapuram DCC in the vacancy caused by the resignation of N. Sakthan. He will hold the post until the end of the local body elections. It has also been agreed to appoint 100 people as KPCC secretaries. The jumbo list of KPCC secretaries was prepared after 59 people were appointed as general secretaries.
KPCC President Sunny Joseph, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, and UDF Convener Adoor Prakash reached the agreement after four hours of discussions in the presence of AICC General Secretary Deepa Dasmunshi, who is in charge of Kerala. They also held phone discussions with leaders, including Working Committee members Ramesh Chennithala and Shashi Tharoor MP.
The jumbo list of KPCC secretaries will be submitted to the high command for consideration. It is expected that an announcement will be made by the high command soon. A permanent DCC president will also be appointed in Thiruvananthapuram after the local body elections.
Sakthan was appointed as the DCC president when Palode Ravi had to resign following an embarrassing audio leak incident where Ravi was heard lambasting the Congress leadership. Sakthan had earlier complained about the leadership not relieving him of the responsibility despite promising that it was interim for just ten days.
Although a decision was made on the KPCC secretaries, the discussion on the appointment of the Thiruvananthapuram DCC president was stalled for a while. VD Satheesan rooted for Chempazhanthy Anil to be the next DCC president. However, the assessment from the leaders found it ill-advised to assign someone who has not held important positions at the KPCC level to the president of the Thiruvananthapuram DCC, as crucial elections are around the corner.
