THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A diverting incident caught little attention amidst the ruckus inside the legislative assembly. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan even while answering in the assembly, made a prescient move to stop Minister V SIvankutty from barging into the protesting opposition camp.
Sivankutty had stationed himself as Chief Minister’s guard amidst protests in the house during question time. With the opposition’s protests intensifying, Sivankutty failed to control his rage and ended up rolling his shirt sleeves and walking towards the opposition seat. CM Pinarayi Vijayan, albeit reading an address, took hold of the happenings and slapped Sivankutty’s hands, making the message clear. Sivankutty as a dutiful subordinate, returned to his seat while the protest continued.
Monday, the first day of the legislative session, was marred by accusations and counter-accusations. The Leader of the Opposition came forward with severe criticism against the Speaker. VD Satheesan was irked when the speaker ridiculed not knowing who the leader of the opposition was. V D Satheesan termed the jibe immature and not ideal coming from a speaker.
Calling him corrupt, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan accused the Chief Minister of being surrounded by minions, who care little about the needs of Kerala’s citizens. Satheesan mocked Pinarayi's remarks against corruption akin to the devil reciting the Vedas.
“The society knows who is Pinarayi Vijayan and who is Satheesan.” The Chief Minister replied that no one would believe that Pinarayi Vijayan is corrupt.
