"No need to celebrate, the Left will return": Pinarayi breaks post-poll silence

KANNUR: Breaking his days-long post-election silence, former Chief Minister and newly appointed Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan conceded defeat in the Assembly elections, stating that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) accepts the public mandate and is poised for a resilient comeback.

Addressing the media following intense speculation surrounding his prolonged silence, Pinarayi Vijayan cautioned adversaries against prematurely celebrating the results, asserting that an electoral setback does not signal the demise of either the CPI(M) or the LDF coalition.

"The electorate voted for a change in governance, and we respect that decision unconditionally," Vijayan stated. Defending his administration's track record, he emphasized that the policy initiatives of the past decade were driven solely by a vision for Kerala’s progress. "While we believe our developmental model set a benchmark, we do not claim an exclusive monopoly on continuing it. The responsibility now lies with the incoming United Democratic Front (UDF) administration."

The veteran Left leader promised that his coalition would offer "constructive support" to policies aimed at public welfare and state development. However, he drew a firm line against anti-people measures, warning that the opposition would fiercely resist any policy that undermines the state's interests.

Despite Pinarayi Vijayan's call for resilience, internal friction is reportedly brewing within the Marxist party. Internal party committees and multiple district secretariats have witnessed sharp criticism targeting both Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan for the poll debacle. Furthermore, reports indicate that Pinarayi Vijayan’s swift appointment as the Leader of the Opposition has also drawn flak from sections within the party rank and file.
