KANNUR: The heroine of 'Lokah', Chandra (Kalliyankattu Neeli), gets her supernatural powers in a secret cave. This cave in Payyavuur, Kannur, is trending just like the movie now.
The 500-meter-long cave is in the rubber plantation of Payyavuur native P Ummer. Many people come to see the cave after learning about it through social media, but they cannot enter because the entrance was covered by mud during the rain. The cave is now full of bats since no people are entering.
The Payyavuur panchayat is planning to remove the obstruction at the entrance, renovate it and turn it into a tourist centre if the landowner is willing to hand over the cave. This cave can be reached by travelling 46 km from Kannur town.
The inside of the cave is shown in a flashback scene in the film directed by Dominic Arun. The scenes in the cave were shot in December last year. The fantasy film Kumari, based on Aithihyamala, was also shot here.
The cave has found a place in reels and vlogs. Locals come to see the cave with their families during summer vacations. However, entry is difficult during the rainy season.
Mini Guna Cave, where sun seeps in
Locals call it Mini Guna Cave. Once you reach 150 meters inside, you can see a rare sight of sunlight seeping in through a large hole at the top. Although the height is up to 15 meters, in some parts it reduces to one meter. In this part, you can move forward only by crawling on your knees
Length: 500 meters
"Panchayat is ready to issue a license if the landowner is ready to make the cave a tourist attraction"
