THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ongoing commercial LPG shortage in Kerala has unexpectedly revitalised the state's juice shops. As thousands of hotels and eateries face operational shutdowns, these shops have become a primary source of quick refreshment. Major oil companies are currently prioritizing domestic supply and essential services due to supply chain disruptions. This has left commercial establishments with little to no fuel, forcing many to close their doors entirely.

This crisis has created a unique ripple effect for juice shop owners. With residents unable to rely on local restaurants, customer traffic has shifted dramatically. There is a marked rise in footfall throughout the day instead of just during peak evening hours. Many shopkeepers report that their daily transaction volumes have doubled, as the public opts for fresh, cold beverages that require no cooking gas.

The surge in demand is further amplified by the current summer heatwave. This makes refreshing cold drinks a preferred choice for commuters and students. Beyond physical crowds at the counters, digital platforms have seen a sharp increase in online orders. Customers are increasingly relying on delivery services to bypass the stress of locating open dining spots. While the authorities work to resolve these supply chain constraints, the beverage sector has become an essential stopgap for many. It is effectively filling a significant void in the local market.
