KAIPAMANGALAM: A crow flew away with a chain worth three and a half sovereigns. The locals chased the crow for half an hour. The incident took place at around 9:30 am yesterday in the courtyard of Anganwadi number 77 in Kudukkuvalav in Mathilakam panchayat.
The crow stole the chain of Anganwadi helper Shirley Thomas. Shirley was sweeping the courtyard there. When the chain got stuck in the broom while cleaning, Shirley took it off and put it on the stairs. She had put the chain close to her lunch.
When Shirley returned after cleaning, her chain was missing. The food package was scattered. With this, Shirley was terrified and screamed. Local residents Panackal Soman, Vembuli and Gulabi rushed to the spot. As the search began, some of the people who were waiting for their children's school bus said that a crow had flown with an object resembling a chain.
With this, the search extended to the nearby mango grove. The villainous crow was on a tree branch with the chain in its beak. With this, there was a commotion and shouting. The locals closely watched the crow. When Panackal Soman, who was in the group, threw a stone, the crow flew away, chirping, "Kra, Kra." The chain fell down. The locals celebrated when the chain reached the ground without getting stuck in the tree branch. Shirley felt relieved and at peace.
