Indian Railways' warning: Never use these apps for tracking live running status

NEW DELHI: Indian Railways warned people to not use private applications to know the live running status of trains in the country. The railways recommended the use of application National Train Enquiry System (NTES) to know the exact timings and other information regarding train services.

Most passengers in the country prefer private applications like Rail Yatri, Ixigo Train, and 'Where is My Train' to know more about train timings.

Railway came with the suggestion minding the wrong information regarding train timings, cancelled trains, diverted trains, being passed on to passengers from these applications. NTES is an app managed by the Center for Railway Information System. If faced with any incorrect details from this app, the passengers are authorised to move ahead with a complaint with the railways and can even proceed with a legal case if there is a possibility of claiming compensation.

These wide services are exclusive only for Railways' official application while the same would not be entertained in private apps. Indian Railways releases train timings using the Real-time Train Information System. However private apps collect information using GPS. Those applications are more likely to cause errors in case of traffic disruptions.

Even before, the railways have warned passengers over the use of private apps. The officials reiterated it after many complaints reaching them over incorrect information being provided by private applications with impunity.
