KOLLAM: A mini-lorry carrying coconuts lost control and overturned. Those who rushed to the rescue took as many coconuts as possible and ran away without taking part in the rescue operation. The incident took place at Kottarakkara Pulamon Junction yesterday morning. The lorry was coming from the MC Road and overturned near the traffic signal.
More than a thousand coconuts in the lorry fell onto the road. Those who rushed to the rescue operation started collecting the coconuts after learning that the driver was not injured. Many people ran away with the coconuts. The people dispersed after the Kottarakkara police arrived. It is reported that more than a hundred coconuts were lost. The lorry was lifted using a crane, and the coconuts were loaded again. The police have not filed a case.
The price of green coconuts is increasing in Kerala. The price of coconut oil is also at a record high. People took advantage of the opportunity when thousands of coconuts, which are bought at high prices in the market, were spread on the road. Since the police did not file a case in the incident, those who ran away with the goods are not worried.
