It is generally said that women gain weight after marriage. People say that no matter how thin they are, they gain weight after marriage. However, a new study shows that it is men who gain weight after marriage. The new study shows that men are three times more likely to become obese after marriage.

The study was conducted by researchers at the National Institute of Cardiology in Poland. The study says that the number of obese people had increased globally since 1990. The study also states that by 2050, half of the world's young people and children will become obese.

The study was conducted on 2405 people under the age of 50. The researchers stated that the study found that married men are 3.2 times more likely to become obese than unmarried men. There was no increase in the risk of obesity among married women. The risk of being overweight is 62 percent more among married men and 39 percent more among married women.

A 2024 study in China found that men's BMI (body mass index) increased in the first five years after marriage due to higher calorie intake and less exercise. It was found that there was a 5.2 percent increase in the number of overweight married men and a 2.5 percent increase in obese men. A study by the University of Bath also found that married men were on average 1.4 kilograms heavier than single men. Factors such as increased food intake, unhealthy foods, increased eating with family and friends, decreased physical activity, and stressful work are cited as the reasons for obesity in married men.

Male BMI increases after marriage and decreases immediately before and after divorce. "Single men looking for a partner try to stay fit. This is to impress their partner. After marriage, most people's interest in fitness decreases," says Joanna Sirda, a lecturer in business economics at the University of Bath. Joanna Sirda pointed out this in a study conducted in 2017.
