THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi wearing a colourful turban. It was drawn by a sixth-grade student, Siddharth, spending two hours on Thursday night. When Modi was speaking at the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation victory celebration meeting at Putharikandam Ground, Siddharth stood up and held up the picture in front of the packed audience. It became a rare moment that touched Modi's heart. Modi accepted the picture. A moment of pride and happiness for Siddharth.
Modi stopped his speech after seeing the child holding his picture up. "A child from the audience has been showing my picture for a while. Your hand will hurt. Write your name and address on the back of the picture and hand it over to the SPG personnel. I will send you a gift and a letter. I wish you all my blessings. I understand your love." Modi's words were met with thunderous applause from the audience.
Modi said that the boy brought not just a picture but his love and prayers, and instructed the security personnel to handle it with great care. "Wherever I go, children and adults come with gifts of love. I accept them from their hands. Later, these come as trolls, but I don't pay attention to them. I can't pretend not to see the love of the people," Modi said.
Siddharth, a student of Christ Nagar School, Thiruvallam, came to the ceremony with his father. He is the son of Sreejith and Reshma R Nair of Rukmini House, Sree Chitra Nagar, Perumthanni, Thiruvananthapuram.
First Portrait
Siddharth has been drawing since the age of four. His first ever portrait is of the Prime Minister. Siddharth, who usually draws landscapes, prepared the portrait of the Prime Minister by drawing an outline on A3 paper with a pencil and colouring it to present it to him. Siddharth is happy that the Prime Minister has accepted the first portrait of his life. Siddharth's brother is Sanskrit.
