Standing at an elevation of 5,735 feet, Tadiandamol is the highest peak in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. Tucked away within the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary near Madikeri, this trek offers a premier experience of the Western Ghats.

Trekking Route

The journey is a 12-kilometer round trip that takes you through a landscape of swirling fog and low-hanging clouds.

  • Duration: Expect a 4.5-hour climb to the summit and a 3-hour descent.
  • Navigation: To prevent accidents and keep hikers on the right track, the Forest Department has tied orange ribbons to trees as path markers.
  • Landscape: The trail transitions from vast coffee and pepper plantations into dense Shola forests, punctuated by mountain streams and scenic meadows.
  • Flora: Keep an eye out for nutmeg, aloe vera, and fishtail palms along the way.

Historical Landmarks

At the base of the hill stands the Nalknad Palace (Aramane). This ancient site served as a strategic retreat for the rulers of Coorg and provides a glimpse into the region's royal history before you begin your ascent.

Timing and Regulations

The Forest Department maintains strict rules to protect both trekkers and the sanctuary:

  • Daily Hours: Trekking is permitted from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • The 2:30 PM Rule: You are not allowed to pass the forest check post after 2:30 PM.
  • Return Policy: You must reach the base or Kakabe bridge before dusk. Navigating the terrain becomes significantly harder and riskier once the sun sets.
  • Ideal Start: For the best experience, start in the early morning.

Seasonal Availability

  • Peak Season: Plan your visit between September and February for the best weather.
  • Closures: Trekking is strictly prohibited from April to June due to the high risk of wildfires.

Quick Tip: Since you'll be passing through plantations and Shola forests, keep an eye out for leeches, especially if you’re trekking closer to the monsoon months!
