Temple priest arrested for sexually abusing minor girl

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A temple priest has been arrested for sexually abusing a minor child in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, Maniyappan, is the priest at Sree Krishna Swamy Temple in Eenchakkal.

According to the police, the girl and her mother had met the priest last week and informed him that she was experiencing anxiety about her upcoming class 10 exams. The priest asked the girl to meet him later. The accused tried to abuse the girl later at a two-storeyed building beside the temple when she came back to meet him.

The incident came to light when the girl, terrified by the priests, rushed to her home and informed her parents. Following this, a case was registered at the Fort police station. Maniyappan was later presented in the court and remanded for 14 days.
