MANARCADU: Manarcadu SC ST court will pronounce the final verdict today in the infamous moral policing murder of tribal man Madhu near Attapady. The verdict comes five years after Madhu was brutally subjected to torture by a mob. Earlier, the verdict was fixed for March 30th, but the court proceedings dragged the date to the 4th of April.

The long trial in the case forced the family of Madhu to approach the authorities with a request for a CBI inquiry. It was after this that the court-appointed high court lawyer C Rajendran as a public prosecutor and Adv Rajesh M Menon as an additional prosecutor. The family nevertheless showed disdain for the move which forced C Rajendran to quit his post. Meanwhile, Rajesh Menon is currently the special prosecutor.

Out of 129 witnesses in the case, 103 were prosecuted. The trial court canceling the bail approval of the accused from the high court paved way for big news. 24 witnesses changed their stance in the case at the final moment making it confounding for the lawyers and officials to proceed with the case.

The trial court judge revealed about facing death threats from a criminal lawyer for canceling the bail plea of the accused.
