Operation Kaveri to evacuate Indian nationals to safer abodes has passed the initial phase. 367 indin nationals saw Delhi again and exhaled a breath of relief. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered union minister V Muraleedharan to stay in Jeddah since the number of Indian nationals still trapped in Sudan is worrying nonetheless. Khartoum airport turned the venue for exchanging fires, ergo reducing the evacuation to follow only one way— embark on the dangerous red sea.

Almost 3000 Indians are mired in the internal conflict of Sudan. Kannur native Augustin was killed earlier this month in the fight which made the country and politicians tilt focus on the issue. Augustin's wife and daughter have been brought safely back to their hometown in Kerala, but only with heartache.

Many countries requested Sudan to quell the firings with regard to an approaching Eid. The military head of the African country cared less about what the world leaders had to say but entertained being at war. However, the fighting came a tad down during Eid forcing America, France, and Saudi to initiate the evacuation process at large. America shifted its nationals to nearby Ethiopia through helicopters. Saudi completed the mission through waterways. France is still doing the needed with Airbus roaring past Sudan skies.

India entered rescue operations lately. The delay caused apprehensions to nationals embroiled in some unknown country's fight. Meanwhile, the external affairs ministry in Delhi is deftly maneuvering moves to make the evacuation fast. Over a century and more, Sudan has held strong camaraderie with India. During the Ukraine war, it was India that evacuated many Sudanese students back to their homeland. Trade between the two countries also glitters hope. India’s rescue operation has been lauded by Saudi in a special move, that brings to the table the newfound bonhomie hitherto shrouded between Modi and MBS.
