PARIS: Indian sailor Commander Abhilash Tomy (retd.) has created history in the Golden Globe Race (GGR), a solo non-stop yacht race around the world. Abhilash Tomy history by finishing the race 2nd after South African sailor Kirsten Neuschafer at 1:30 PM (IST) in Les Sables d’Olonne, France on Saturday. Although he had participated in the same event five years ago, he was forced to back off from the event due to an injury.
The Golden Globe Race is considered the toughest sailing race in the world. Abhilash's boat 'Bayanat' reached the French coast at around 10.30 am Indian time today. Abhilash completed the race in 236 days, 14 hours and 46 minutes after traveling 48,000 km. He started the journey in 2022 September from Les Sables d'Olonne.
