BHUBANESWAR: As the hospitals in Balasore were overflowing overnight with dead bodies and seriously injured people, the corpses were shifted out. Many institutions including schools were turned into temporary mortuaries. Many people who search for their loved ones in these makeshift mortuaries identify them by dialing their mobile numbers. Mobile phones in the pockets of the corpses were ringing constantly which was a sad sight.
As the bodies of those killed in the Odisha train tragedy lined up, the high school in Bahanaga also turned into a makeshift morgue. Satyasundar Barik, a media worker, tweeted that mobile phones are ringing non-stop in the pockets of the corpses, which was an unnerving experience.
The bone chilling horror of standing in a school room filled with dead bodies, with phones going off in their pockets likely from desperate family members who will never hear from them again … a chilling ground report from @satyabarik https://t.co/Zsxx5qxl77 pic.twitter.com/8Y3m7YUYfN
