KOTTARAKKARA: A man who stole from a temple and a masjid in Kottarakkara was arrested. The arrested has been identified as Ayyappan (33) alias Blade Ayyappan of Putthanveedu in Mangalapuram, Thiruvananthapuram.

Ayyappan was nabbed from a rented house in Karunagappally's Kulasekharapuram. He was caught in a case of money extortion by breaking into Ammankovil Temple and Vallam Juma Masjid (Thaikav) in Kottarakkara. The 'Trishool' taken after the temple robbery was used to commit the theft in the masjid and was left in the church.

The discovery of the trident in the masjid was controversial at first, but later the details about the theft came to light. CCTV footage of the accused was also obtained. The accused was arrested under the leadership of CI VS Prashanth and SIs Gopakumar and Deepu. The court remanded the accused.

Escape act by injuring self

When caught by the police or caught in the act of stealing, Ayyappan will use a blade to cut his own body. People will then move back when blood spurts out and he will run away. There are also incidents where the wounded Ayyappan was taken to the hospital and survived. The name Blade Ayyappan came from the fact that he uses a blade to make a wound. This time too he tried to use the blade but was subdued by the police.
