The BRICS summit concluded in South Africa further underscored India's diplomatic importance. India has put forward a number of creative proposals to make cooperation between the BRICS countries more comprehensive. Foremost among these is the idea of establishing a BRICS exploration consortium to further exploit the potential of space. "We are already working on the BRICS satellite constellation, but to move a step further, we should think about establishing a BRICS space exploration consortium," - these were the words of Modi in the plenary session. Modi's words have added significance as India became the first country to land on the Moon's South Pole. Besides, six more countries are going to become members of BRICS.

Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and UAE were announced as new members at the 15th summit concluded in Johannesburg, although it was decided at the last BRICS conference to expand the association of five economic powers namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa . In this, Saudi Arabia and UAE are at a high economic level.
This will also give India an opportunity to enter into new agreements with these countries while establishing space exploration consortia. About 40 countries have already expressed their interest in becoming members of BRICS and 22 countries have applied in writing. China pressed for Pakistan's inclusion in the alliance but it did not happen due to India's opposition. This is yet another diplomatic victory for India.

The second proposal put forward by Modi is to support education, skill development and technology sectors. Apart from this, India also proposed to utilize the services of traditional medicine. During the summit meeting, Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to speed up steps to end the standoff between Indian and Chinese forces in eastern Ladakh. Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra was the first to reveal that a discussion was held in this regard, and then the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson also confirmed this. Tensions in eastern Ladakh have yet to abate significantly since the two armies clashed in June 2020. In this situation, the agreement between the two leaders to respect the Line of Actual Control and withdraw the forces in a phased manner can be considered a victory for India.
