NEW DELHI: Special Protection Group (SPG) director Arun Kumar Sinha (61) died here Wednesday. He died early this morning while undergoing treatment for cancer at a hospital in Gurugram. He was 1987 batch Kerala cadre IPS officer.
He had been serving as SPG Director since 2016. The central government had issued an order extending his tenure by one more year in last May. Sinha was Prime Minister's most trusted official.
His education was in Jharkhand. He had served as Thiruvananthapuram DCP, commissioner, Intelligence IG and many important duties. He was the one who found evidence including the email death threats against the President and the Prime Minister.
Arun Kumar Sinha's name was also considered for the post of Kerala DGP after Loknath Behra. However, Sinha, who was in central service informed that he was not interested in returning to Kerala.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of Arun Kumar Sinha. The chief minister recalled that Arun Kumar Sinha was an officer who performed many responsibilities with excellence as part of the Kerala Police.
