MUMBAI: Indian captain Rohit Sharma is about to retire from the T20 format of cricket, as per the latest news. According to a national media report, the BCCI is ready to hold talks with the player about his future in the team. Meanwhile, news is also floating about the 36-year-old captain informing senior officials in BCCI about his plans to relinquish duty from the T20 format.

Rohit has scored 3853 runs in 148 T20 matches for India with a massive 140 strike rate. It is indicated that the selection committee headed by Ajith Agarkar is already on a mission to find the new T20 captain keeping in mind the future.

Rohit Sharma led from the front and was the catalyst for the Indian team reaching the final in the recently ended ICC World Cup tournament. On the contrary, India's recent form in T20 was dismal and the team mostly encountered lame games in the shorter format of the game. India was eliminated in the World Cup T20 last year in the semi-finals.

Rohit Sharma will continue as captain in ODI and Test match format and is sure about playing his part in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and World Test championship. Rohit was a member of the winning team in the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Meanwhile, selectors are zeroing in on Hardik Pandya to be the successor for Rohit in the T20 format.
