DEHRADUN: The agencies involved in the mission to rescue 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand encountered a fresh problem on Wednesday night. The blade of an auger drilling machine got damaged at night after the machine hit a hard object. The crisis arose during the final stage of the rescue mission. Efforts to resolve the issue are ongoing.
The rescue workers will be able to reach the trapped workers if they drill another 12 meters through the 60 meters of rubble that fell into the tunnel. Two six-metre-long pipes need to be inserted through this. If the problem is resolved tonight, all the workers can be rescued by tomorrow morning.
As the drilling entered the final stage, experts of the Disaster Management Force reached the tunnel and started the preparations.
