Opposition unites for peaceful winter Parliament session, pledges selective opposition to Govt. moves

election

The winter session of Parliament commenced on an auspicious note as the opposition parties chose a different path, signaling their intention to support a constructive session. In a notable departure from the norm, opposition leaders unanimously resolved to avoid disruptions for a more productive discourse during the session.

Led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the opposition front, barring the absence of the Samajwadi Party representative due to prior commitments, pledged their commitment to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Parliament. This decision, though excluding the Samajwadi Party, reflects a unified stance by the opposition leaders.

Acknowledging the looming elections on the horizon, set to take place in the coming months, the opposition's decision seems rooted in a desire to present a more disciplined and responsible approach in Parliament. Unlike past instances where chaos and noise overshadowed legislative proceedings, the opposition's initiative aims for a more focused and meaningful debate on crucial issues.

Emphasizing their intent to abstain from unnecessary disruptions, the opposition clarified that while they won't obstruct the session, they remain prepared to vehemently oppose unilateral government decisions. Specifically, they demand a comprehensive discussion in the House regarding the recommendation to expel Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra put forth by the ethics committee.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent call for the opposition to refrain from creating disruptions, citing their recent electoral setbacks, received a lukewarm response. The opposition appears resolute in their decision to avoid their typical disruptive tactics, signaling a shift toward a more strategic and constructive engagement during this session.

By opting to eschew the traditional approach of causing uproars and hindering parliamentary proceedings, the opposition's resolution indicates a more mature and prudent approach, albeit arriving later than anticipated.
