NEW DELHI: Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) has given the green light for acquiring and integrating two cutting-edge technologies into the T-90 tanks. The approved technologies include the Digital Ballistic Computer (DBC) and Automatic Target Tracker (ATT) both integral parts of the tanks' fire control system. The decision was made during a meeting held on November 30.
The Digital Ballistic Computer plays a crucial role in powering the tank's fire guidance system, especially when atmospheric conditions change. It takes into account factors such as the tank's internal temperature, ambient temperature, wind speed and direction.
An official highlighted the advantages of this technology for the Army stating, "With the DBC, T-90 tanks can effectively detect enemy tanks."
The T-90 tanks, a cornerstone of the Indian Army's armoured capabilities are originally manufactured in Russia. As part of this approval, it's been revealed that the 1,200 T-90 tanks currently in use will undergo refurbishment to incorporate these advanced technologies.
Additionally, it's important to note that apart from the T-90s, the Indian Army also operates more than 2,400 T-72 tanks, which currently lack the ATT and DBC enhancements.
