Nava Kerala Sadas; Widespread conflict erupts in Attingal, houses destroyed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In Attingal, a widespread clash ensued during protests against the Nava Kerala Sadas involving confrontations between Youth Congress and DYFI. The altercation began when DYFI workers targeted the house of a Youth Congress leader. In retaliation, Youth Congress members retaliated by attacking the residence of Attingal Municipal Standing Committee Chairman intensifying tensions in the area.

The upheaval sparked further violence in Attingal and Venjaramoodu regions during the Nava Kerala Yathra. Youth Congress Attingal Constituency President, Suhail expressed dissent by displaying a black flag during the Nava Kerala Yathra. However, despite police presence, DYFI-CPM workers assaulted Suhail's residence.

Following these clashes, Youth Congress activists staged a protest in Attingal vandalizing Nava Kerala Sadas flags and banners. This escalation led to a subsequent attack on the house of Attingal Municipality Standing Committee Chairman, Najam. Conflict also erupted in Venjaramoodu, prompting increased police deployment to contain the situation as tensions continued to rise.

As a result of these events, the UDF has called for a hartal in Alamkodu and Karavaram Panchayat to denounce the attacks during the protest against Nava Kerala Sadas.
